The Best Way to Start Your Day

Y’all, I feel like I might have finally learned how to game the system.

Cheat #1: The Little Human. It is a tiny story that asks a lot of big questions while we’re swimming around in our minds pretending to be mermaids. I did that on purpose. I think young people need and want to wrestle with big ideas. When I was a classroom teacher, getting to hear children’s big ideas (especially the ones hidden in small moments) was what got me excited for every day. I miss that. And it’s what brings us to...

Cheat #2: Instead of being sad that I only get to do read alouds at school visits and book festivals, I took matters into my own hands and recorded a read aloud series for The Little Human. It is informal and interactive and, honestly, I think it’s the smartest thing I have done in a while.

For the last week or so I have gotten to start my morning by reading the most wonderful assortment of thoughts and predictions from a very clever assortment of children from all over. It’s all the best parts of being a classroom teacher without any of the paperwork (😉)and it’s pretty much the best way to start any day. Highly recommend.

Which leads me to a thing that I usually do NOT enjoy and subconsciously avoid like the plague: going to the post office. No offense to all the postal workers out there, but there's just something about it that my heart doesn't love. HOWEVER, getting things like this may convert me to a post office person. Most of the letters I get from kids and teachers and parents come via email, but every once in a while, something comes the old fashioned way and my heart skips a beat.

Here's hoping your day is beautiful!
