Be like Stephen King

It's been a little over a year since I realized that I actually want to be a writer (as opposed to a person who enjoys writing) and, because sometimes I'm thicker than I ought to be, I just realized something. Like, literally just in this very moment realized something that I probably should have known all along: It doesn't all have to stick.

Stephen King is one of the most well-known writers on the planet and I have read a number of his books. Off the top of my head I could think of 9 or 10 of his books that stuck with me. That's huge. Then I popped over to his website to see if there were books of his that I have read but kind of forgotten and totally had my mind blown. Not only are there books of his that I have read and forgotten, but there are something just shy of a million more than I have never even heard of!

I know this is naive, but it never occurred to me that there would be Stephen King books that I'd never even heard of. Books whose titles were not even passingly familiar. So when I saw that it was like someone unlatched a gate and opened the wide world to me. Lesson learned.

Be a writer. Be prolific. Some of it might stick.

The way I feel now can only be summed up by this image of Guinea Pig in Times Square.

So, new goal: By the end of May 2017 I will have at least 10 titles to my credit. Please hold me to it.
